Magical Creatures

Quintaped (Hairy MacBoon) - Quintaped (or Hairy MacBoon) is a very dangerous carnivorous monster with a very special appetite for humans. Its body, short and flat, is covered in a thick reddish-brown, as well as its five legs, which end in crippled feet. Quintaped is found only on the remote island of Drear, on the northernmost tip of Scotland. Construction was banned in Drear for this reason. Legend has it that two families of sorcerers once lived on the island of Drear: the McClivert and the MacBoon. A duel of intoxicated sorcerers between Dugald, head of the MeClivert clan, and Quintius, leader of the MacBoon clan, will have led to the death of Dugald. The story goes that one night, in retaliation, a group of McClivert surrounded the MacBoon homes, turning all members of that family into monstrous five-legged creatures. The McClivert realized too late that the MacBoon were infinitely more dangerous in their new state (the MacBoon were known for their great inability for magic). In addition, they resisted all attempts to return them to human form. The monsters killed the McClivert to the last of their kind and there was no one left on the island. Only then did they realize that the absence of someone who could wield a wand meant that they would have to stay that way forever. Whether this legend is false or true will never be known. McClivert and MacBoon no longer exist to tell us what happened to their ancestors. The Quintapeds cannot speak and have tenaciously resisted all attempts by the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures to capture a specimen in an attempt to transfigure it. It remains for us, then, to admit that if they really are, as their name indicates, "hairy" MacBoon, they certainly like the idea of ending their days as monsters.
